HEADLINER OF THE MONTH

Tierra Whack

Tierra Whack is a rapper from Philadelphia.  Her first song to grab the world's attention was 'Mumbo Jumbo'. The 2017 video went viral and was nominated for Best Music Video at the 2019 Grammy Awards.

The release of her debut album 'Whack World' really made people sit up and take notice. The album was a creative hip hop masterpiece and, not surprisingly, it found its way on to several 2018 best album lists including Billboard's and Pitchfork's just to name a few. Tierra was able to squeeze 15 incredible songs into a record that lasted just under15 minutes. The album is truely an emotional rollercoaster ride that takes your breathe away. 'Hungry Hippo' was the first and only single from the album.

Lyrically, Tierra is a poet. Every line is a revelation waiting to be discovered. Visually, Tierra knows how to grab your attention. Every song on the album was released on Instagram and was accompanied by a short film. This was an artist taking experimental hip hop by storm. Whack is allergic to insects. 'Bugs Life' is a song on the album that shows this girl knows how to have some fun at her own expense.

To-date, Tierra Whack has done several note worthy collaborations with artists such as Melanie Martinez, Lil Yachty and Alicia Keys. 'Copy cat' is a song she wrote with Melanie Martinez. It makes me smile.

In 2021 Tierra released 3 EPs; 'Rap?' 'Pop?' and 'R&B?'. Each EP takes you into different musical directions. Her last offering is 'Heaven' from 'R&B?'. The song was recently premiered on NPR's 'The Formula'. It took my breathe away and put a tear in my eye.

This is an artist to love. Keep an eye on her instragram account if you want to keep up-to-date with the world of Tierra Whack.
