HEADLINER OF THE MONTH
May, 2024
Clown Core

Clown Core must be one of the weirdest bands out there. They are not batshit crazy because they wear clown masks and no-one knows who they are. Hey, there have been plenty of bands that have hidden their identity over the years. They are not batshit crazy because they leave coded messages on the internet and disappear for years at a time but it certainly helps. They are batshit crazy because of their music. Many have described it as genre-defying and for good reason. They released their debut self-titled album in 2010. 'Surreal Ceral' was the band's first video they uploaded on their YouTube channel. The song runs for 36 seconds and it will leave you scratching your head.

"What the hell was that?" you might be asking. Trust me, you are not alone. If you think it couldn't get any weirder you are sadly mistaken because it does. Clown Core like to put out little teasers to get you wondering. After vanishing off the radar for three years they put out the video with title '?' and the question on the screen 'what happened to Clown Core?'. They them promptly disappeared for another three years. I told you it gets weirder and it does. Three years later they then drop a video with the message 'WE ARE IN A TOILET' with some morse code which when deciphered read 'We are still alive'. Good to know. This is a band that loves to tease. In 2018, they released their second album with the title, you guessed it, 'Toilet'. And they really were. All the videos were shot in a portable toilet. 'Hell' is a song that really grows on you after a few listens. I am not 100% sure but it think these guys might be musical gods sent down to shake the tree.

In 2020 they released their third album 'Van'. It is great to see them get out of that mobile toilet and into some more spacious surrounds albeit only a minor step up. Their balaclava-clad driver gives you the impression they are on their way to an armed holdup. 'Earth' is a song from the album and I love it.

In 2021 they released an EP 1234 and started to tour. And yes, they are just as crazy live as they are in their videos.

If you want to check out Clown Core, any planned shows will be listed on their website, but I have to warn you they will be listed just below a 'Give Us Money' button which makes me feel slightly uncomfortable. I don't know why but it just does.
