HEADLINER OF THE MONTH
June, 2019

Courtney Barnett

Courtney Barnett is our first solo artist to be headliner of the month.  The Australian singer, songwriter and musician has released two albums to critical acclaim. She has quickly drawn the attention of a worldwide audience. What makes Courtney stand out is that she is probably the closest thing you are going to get to a singing poet. Her mundane lyrics are layered with metaphors that often tackle a whole range of complex issues. The deadpan delivery of her songs that are sung with a hint of an Australian accent just adds to the appeal. It is no surprise that she was nominated in 2016 Grammy Awards for best new artist. Her first album 'Sometimes I sit and think and sometimes I just sit' made an appearance on several top album lists when it was released in 2015. 'Depression' is a song that didn't get released as a single from the album but it is classic Courtney.

"Pedestrian at Best' was the first single from her debut album and it really highlights her unique style.

'Nobody really cares if you don't go to the party' was the fourth single released from the album and the video captures the buzz she was creating.

In 2018 she followed up with her sophomore album 'Tell me how you really feel'.  The album also made it onto several top album lists. The first single from the album was "Nameless, faceless". The reference to the Handmaid's Tale is Courtney gold.

Courtney is touring North America, Europe and Australia. She is doing a bunch of shows and festivals.  Tickets are available on her website.
