Ramones
Ramones are punk rock legends. Their first four albums quite literally set the template for the punk rock scene in the United States. 'Blitzkrieg Bop' was their first single from their very first album, the 'Ramones', and it is punk rock gold.
Another Ramones' classic is 'Sheena is a punk rocker' from their second album 'Leaving Home'.
Ramones were a very hard working band that were constantly on the road yet they still managed to release over 14 studio albums. The band from Queens remained firmly committed to the punk rock sound they established throughout their career. 'Too Tough to Die' is the Ramones 8th album and it has a mix of hardcore punk and punk rock and it is one of my favourites.
Although the Ramones did not achieve the commercial success of many other bands their impact on the rock scene has endured. 'I wanna be sedated' is one of my all-time favorite songs.
For many years I thought that Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Tommy were brothers. Hey, after all they sang about family. Turns out they adopted Ramone as a stage name and none of them were actually related. It explains how the band over the years had 8 members all with the same family name.
All the original members of the Ramones are now deceased but their legacy lives on. It is no surprise that the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
