The Jesus and Mary Chain

The Jesus and Mary Chain debut album 'Psychocandy' introduced the world to guitar feedback. Its influence on the alternative rock scene was significant and featured the abrasive sound of guitar feedback as an integral part of the song.  'Never Understand' was the first single from the album and it was named track of year by the influential UK industry publication NME.

My favorite song from the album was 'Just like Honey'. This song has appeared in several movies including the closing scene of Lost in Translation.

Scottish brothers,  Jim and Willian Reid formed the core of the band and they had a very turbulent relationship with their audience and other band members. My father in law was at a show when they toured and they kept the audience waiting for over three hours. When they did show up they did a 25 minute set and left. It wasn't until later that he found out that he got lucky as they typically only did a 20 minute set with their backs facing the audience. It was not surprising that Bobby Gillespie, their drummer, left after the first album to become the leader singer of Primal Scream.  Jesus and Mary Chain replaced him with a drum machine.  At least the drum machine didn't have to deal with their drug fuelled behavior.
