Homeless Veterans
Many years ago I was on the subway in New York and a guy limped on. The right side of his body looked like it had been impacted by an explosion. It was grim. He was clutching a dirty styrofoam coffee cup with his thumb and his two remaining fingers. He started to pitch for money by stating that he was a veteran, homeless and desperate. I have heard of lot of down and out pleas for my hard earned cash but this guy made me wonder if his story was true. Sadly, I now know it probable was true. Five Finger Death Punch and and their video 'Wrong side of heaven' pretty much sums up why it is a disgrace that people who have served their country are let down so badly.
When I was young, the brother of a school friend was in the army. He was serving in a country I had never heard of. He was killed in action and came home in a flagged draped coffin. The impact it had on my friend and his parents was totally devastating. When I saw Five Finger Death Punch's version of Offspring classic 'Gone Away' it brought a tear to my eye.
