The Scientists

The exciting news is that the Scientists are playing at the Teragram Ballroom in Downtown LA on April 24, 2019. Why so excited? Well, the Scientists are probably the most influential band you never heard of.

The band heralds from Perth on the west coast of Australia.  Until last year they had never played in America. Many consider the Scientists to be the precursors to the Seattle Grunge Movement.  Mudhoney, Sonic Youth and Nirvana are a few of the many bands to have cited the Scientists as a significant influence on their music. This influence came via strong College Radio support of the Scientists in the pre grunge era. It is no surprise that Mudhoney jumped at the chance to play with these indie rock pioneers when they did their Seattle show in 2018 as part of their first American tour. The Scientists and their frontman, Kim Salmon are prolific in terms musical output. Their 2003 mini album 'Blood Red River' and their 2008 album 'Weird Love' remain classics.

The band has had a long music journey and were leading contributors to swamp rock and the emergence of the heavy rhythms and distorted guitars that became such a feature of the grunge sound.  'Swampland' from 'Weird Love' is one of our all time favorites.

Tickets for the LA show can be purchased from the link below.
