Melvins
The Melvins are considered by many to be the band that set the template for sludge metal which helped shape the sound of the emerging grunge movement. 'Six Song' was the band's debut EP and is regarded as the very first sludge metal release.
'Gluey Porch Treatments' was the band's debut album and it laid the foundation for grunge band's that were to follow.
Lead singer, Buzz Osborne and drummer, Dale Clover were the core members of the group. Buzz and his big hair are without doubt he power behind the throne.
'Ozma' was the band's follow up album and it was considered by Revolver magazine to the one of the top ten grunge albums you need to own.
If you were forced to pick the best Melvin's album it would be difficult to go pass 'Houndini'. It is packed with so many great songs that are all sludge metal classics. Without doubt 'Honey Bucket' is an all time favorite and it is at the top of my pile.
The Melvins were the band that ensured sludge became entwined into the grunge sound that took over the world.
