Blondie

Blondie crawled its way out of Manhatten's CBGB club, which was the birthplace of New York's thriving punk rock and new wave scene that emerged in the 1970's. Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, the founding members of Blondie, were at the forefront of that wave and to many they lead the charge. 'X-Offenders' was the band's very first release.

'Blondie's first commercial success was in Australia when a TV show called Countdown accidentally played the B-Side of their first release 'X-Offenders'. 'In the Flesh' went to the top of the Australian music charts.

Succes in the US did not come until a few years later but in the meantime Blondie grew its fan base in Australia and the UK. 'Plastic Letters' was the band's second album and it charted in UK and across Europe. 'Denis' was the first single from the album.

Success in the US came with the release of the band's third album 'Parrallel Lines'. 'Heart of Glass' was one of several international hits from the album.

The band released six albums before their unexpected hiatus that was the result of Stein's battle with a rare autoimmune disease. There are so many great songs in those albums but I have to play 'Hanging on the Telehpone'.

What makes Blondie special is their willingness to be bold and explore different genres. The  band has tackled different styles without fear. Along the way they have amassed so many awards and accolades include being inducted into the Roll and Roll Hall of Fame.
