The Clash

The Clash are UK punk rock legends that inspired so many bands the list would just be too long. The Rolling Stone ranked the band at 28 on their 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. The band's first two albums are considered to be punk rock classics and appear in all the credible best album lists. 'White Riot' was the band's very first single and it has been covered by just about every band on the planet.

'Give 'Em Enough Rope' was the band's second album and the first to be released in the United States. 'English Civil War' was the second single from the album.

The Clash really grabbed the world's attention with the release of their experimental third album, 'London Calling'. The double album was a worldwide hit and went on to sell over 5 million albums. The lead single had the same title and it became a political anthem for a generation.

'Combat Rock' was the band's fifth album and was the band's biggest commercial success. It spent over a year on the Billboard charts. 'Rock the Casbah' was the second single from the album and was a massive hit worldwide.

Another big song from the album was 'Should I Stay or Should I go'. It was released as double A-sided single with 'Straight to Hell'. The song is listed in Rolling Stone's greatest 500 songs of all time.

The Clash was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. For me the band's greatest legacy was the energy it brought into the fight for political change and social justice.
