The Cramps

The Cramps were formed by husband and wife duo, Lux Interior and Poison Ivy. Other members have come and gone but Lux and Poison were the driving force behind the band until Lux's death in 2009. The band pioneered the psychobilly sound. The band is from California but moved to New York in 1975 and started playing at the CGGB's. This put them in the company of bands like the Ramones, Blondie, and Talking Heads to name a few. 'Songs the Lord Taught Us' was the band's first first studio album. 'Garbageman' is a song from the album.

The Cramps were a marketing powerhouse. Everything was an opportunity to grab some attention. The Cramps' t-shirt and album covers are iconic. The band coined and were the first to use the phrase 'psychobilly' in their promotion material and a genre was born.

'Goo Goo Muck' from Pschedelic Jungle is a cult favorite. This song really highlights the band's three-instrument sound that has propelled the band to cult status.

The Cramps' legacy is they showed the world it is possible to strip the music back to its basic elements and still sound damn good.
