Horsegirl
Horsegirl are a three member, indie rock outfit that hail from the Windy City. The band formed in 2019 and released a DYI single 'Forecast'. The song immediately grabs your attention and it makes you want to close your eyes and drift away.
The band's next offering was 'Sea Life Sandwich Boy' from their EP 'Horsegirl: Ballroom Dance Scene'. This is the song that really made me sit up and take notice. I instantly fell in love with this song and this EP. It is no surprise that Paste included it on their list of best EPs in 2020. It is also no surprise the EP grabbed the attention of Matador who added the band to their roster.
'Billy' was the first single that the band released under the Matador label. Like the previous offering Horsegirl delivered in spades and the industry was taking notice. Rolling Stone put the song into its list of songs you need know. They put up the flag that they are definitely a band to watch.
Horsegirl have had a very big impact wth the release of their debut studio album 'Virtues of Modern Performance'. For me you can really hear undertones of a 90s indie rock influence that has permeated into the band's sound. One of my favourite songs on the album is 'Anti-Glory', which was released as the album's second single.
To support the album, the band toured Europe and North America. They also made their debut at the 2022 Lollapalooza in Chicago and Coachella in the same year. This is a band to watch. Check out the band's website for details.
